Instagram Roundup 5.

2018 has been eventful to say the least! Amongst a few work trips and testing with some very talented people, my shooting career takes a step in the right direction, my little Citroen c1 takes a violent shove backwards, and life in general moves west as we relocate to the ‘burbs.

Next stop: 2019!

Instagram Roundup 4.

Another quarter, another roundup; more insights into my day-to-day! Since July, I've loved grilling in the rain, early mornings by the river, spending time with family in Cornwall, getting creative with my tests, week-long shoots in Rye, eating curry for five consecutive days and feeling motivated by the people I meet and places I see.

Apart from the (regrettably numerous) hours a week I (waste)/spend staring at my feed, I do find Instagram helpful, inspiring and a pretty honest, if a little abstract and rose-tinted, representation of how I spend my life. I'm aware that it's public but I enjoy sharing my personal stuff alongside the more work-orientated posts so for now, I'll keep doing so. You can obviously follow me, if you don't already, at @hhughes_photo.

Instagram Roundup 3.

So here it is, non-followers. Instagram Roundup 3. I am putting this up here today because I reached 400 followers this morning and wanted to look back on the last 3-4 months of 'best bits!

I've had a rare 'relaxation' holiday to Malta with the SO, I spent a week at The Savoy, I've been testing nearly twice a month since April and have finally been on my first trip abroad for work - to Italy no less!

Got a few more tests in the diary, lots of work with new photographers and even a little trip to Cornwall later in the year, where I hope to get some video shot for a bit of practice!

Pretty Peas.

Another test! This time an unusually spontaneous one, brought on by the kind lending of some beautiful props by the marvellous Sarah Birks (who's name I saw everywhere on all the prettiest props in the prop houses but only recently met!).

I put out an Instagram "shout out" (see below) on the Friday before the bank holiday and the marvellous Tamara Vos got in touch out of the blue after meeting once or twice on other shoots. I've long admired Tamara's airy, pretty style and it was very flattering for her to get in touch. We had very little time to come up with something so I sent some snaps of the props we had to work with and a very loose brief and left her to come up with some ideas!

Tamara went all out and sourced some beautiful ingredients over the bank holiday weekend - not always an easy task as we found out on Tuesday morning! The recipes were simple and elegant and totally delicious.

I'm thrilled the images are kind of different to my usual style; that's what tests are for, after all! Normally I'd say my shots are a little messier, a little punchier and it's great to collaborate with someone who can nudge you out of your comfort zone and create something delicate and fresh.

I really like these images and loved shooting on the day. Plus, I have a new favourite go-to dinner party recipe - those clams were just perfect and, amazingly, come straight out of the freezer!

Instagram Roundup 2.

Ahhh, The bi-annual Instagram roundup is here! Oooh look, there are Christmas cookies and prop house discoveries, trips to Blackpool pleasure beach and snapshots of my breakfast!

Occasionally I dream of a beautifully curated, carefully thought out Instagram account, with similar tones and a million followers and then I remember that I'm terrible at keeping diaries and this is the closest I'll get to documenting my sometimes strange, always different, super fortunate existence....Then I think of how grateful I'll be in 60 years that I shot my view from the bus, or my efforts towards becoming a photographer full time or a pic of Scott and I looking youthful and goofy and happy.

Instagram Roundup 1.

If you don't Instagram, or maybe you spent your summer outdoors and NOT on your phone (unlike myself), enjoy a little 'TLDR' of the summer of '16.

Basically, I ate a lot, took pictures of animals and own too many pairs of converse.
